Unicom Intelligent Building (UIB) is a subsidiary of Unicom New Zealand - a leading ICT provider established in 2011 with a combined group turnover of approximately $45 million NZD. With 15 years of operation and offices in Auckland, Christchurch, and Sydney, UIB specialises in delivering end-to-end intelligent building technology solutions for hotels, residential apartments, retirement villages, and commercial developments across New Zealand and Australia.
UIB's point of difference is unique in the market: they are the only company in NZ that covers the full scope - from ELV design and hardware supply through to fibre network infrastructure, IP security, MATV, hospitality TV systems, AV, and room control, all under one roof. Alongside their proven commercial project portfolio - including the Radisson RED Hotel Auckland, Microtel by Wyndham Wellington, and Maxim Hotel Albany - UIB is now expanding into the commercial solar infrastructure market. They are looking to appoint a Business Development Manager to drive B2B growth across both sectors.
What You'll Do
Drive new B2B business development across the NZ commercial construction market - hotels, retirement villages, apartment developments, and commercial complexes
Develop and grow a pipeline of commercial solar infrastructure opportunities with developers, EPC contractors, and asset owners
Act as channel manager to architects, service designers, mechanical designers, and specifiers - get UIB specified at project stage
Attend industry events, trade expos, and supplier gatherings to build the UIB brand across both markets
Serve as the primary client liaison from initial brief through to project completion
Understand client technical requirements at a high level and translate them clearly to the UIB delivery team
Lead tender responses in collaboration with internal project and technical teams
Build a pipeline of long-term commercial relationships with main contractors, developers, and solar asset owners
What You'll Bring
Proven experience in a BDM, sales, or business development role within commercial construction, solar infrastructure, ELV, or ICT
Demonstrated ability to identify, pursue, and close new business - this is not an account management role
Strong understanding of the commercial construction and/or solar project tender process, from specification through to award
Ability to influence at a senior level - comfortable engaging architects, project managers, developers, and C-suite decision-makers
Commercially astute - able to articulate value, understand project margins, and position a premium solution competitively
Established network within NZ commercial construction, solar, or related infrastructure sectors
Self-starter who can independently manage a long-cycle sales pipeline with minimal oversight
Excellent verbal and written communication skills - confident presenter in both formal and informal settings
